Deposit Protection

Poland’s deposit guarantee scheme is established by the Act on the Bank Guarantee Fund, Deposit Guarantee Scheme and Resolution of 10 June 2016. Prior to 8 October 2016, deposit protection was governed by the Act on the Bank Guarantee Fund of 14 December 1994.

Polish law fully implements Directive 2014/49/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 April 2014 on deposit guarantee schemes (DGSD).

Our deposit guarantee scheme covers eligible deposits held with:

  • Credit institutions authorised in Poland (i.e., banks with their registered offices in Poland)*
  • Cooperative savings and credit unions
  • Branches of non-EU credit institutions operating in Poland**

Key features of Poland’s deposit protection:

  • Coverage limit: €100,000 per depositor, per institution
  • Repayment period: 7 working days from the date deposits become unavailable
  • Currencies: All currencies accepted (compensation paid in PLN)
  • EU compliance: Fully harmonised with Directive 2014/49/EU
